Ceramic dental implants in Mexico are an excellent alternative to conventional titanium implants. They can replace damaged or missing teeth without compromising the patient’s dental function.
Ceramic dental implants allow the patient to have the best replacements for their teeth and do not require complex care like dentures and other removable replacements. The material used for these implants is non-toxic and non-allergenic.
What are ceramic dental implants?
Dental implants are a type of tooth prosthesis used when the patient’s teeth are missing or too damaged for installing crowns on natural roots. These screw-shaped prostheses replace the roots of the teeth and serve as artificial points for installing crowns or fixed bridges. The first screws were made of titanium. Titanium implant installation is still the most popular type of root replacement, but the material has several drawbacks. Titanium can cause allergic reactions in some patients, and an implant made of titanium can sometimes show through the gums if they are thin or recede. Titanium is gray and can look like dental plaque if the implant becomes visible.
What are ceramic dental implants made of?
Ceramic implants can be made from different types of porcelains, with zirconia being the most common. Zirconia is another name for zirconium oxide. It is an opaque white porcelain. Although it contains metallic zirconium, all of it is irreversibly oxidized, and the porcelain does not exhibit any properties common to metals.
Zirconia is very durable and does not react with the patient’s body. It is both non-toxic and hypoallergenic. Zirconia’s color makes it a more esthetic material for implant manufacturing, as it does not look out of place even when the patient’s gums recede and make the implant show under the crown or bridge.
What is the price for ceramic implants at Mexicodent?
The average price of ceramic implants at our clinic is $750. The cost of implantation in the US and Canada is very high, so the number of patients traveling to Mexico for dental treatment is increasing every year. We offer the same FDA-approved implant screws used in US clinics to give our patients treatments of the best quality. Our implant treatments come with a warranty confirming the high standards of quality and dental care at our clinic.

Who is eligible for dental implant installation?
To be eligible for implants, the patient must meet several criteria. The patient will have a consultation with one of our doctors to determine if ceramic implant installation is the best treatment for him.
The dentist will pay extra attention to the following criteria:
- Jawbone density
- Patient’s overall health
- History of allergic reactions to metals
The patient must have sufficiently dense jawbones to be eligible for implant installation. Patients with low jawbone density may become eligible after a bone graft surgery, which will improve bone density by grafting transplanted or artificial bone into the jaw. Some patients who want to install an implant into the upper jaw may need sinus lift surgery. This surgery will relocate their sinus cavities higher to protect them from implant perforation.
How are ceramic implants installed?
In the past, most implants required a three-stage installation procedure. The dentist would remove the patient’s damaged teeth first and send the patient home. The implant installation would only occur once the jaws had fully healed, which often took up to half a year. Considering that implanted screws also need about half a year for osseointegration, the full treatment could take more than a year to complete.
Porcelain implant screws, being more modern, are installed using immediate loading protocols, meaning the implant screws can be installed immediately after teeth extraction. To install an implant, the dentist will make an incision in the patient’s gums. The screw is then inserted into the exposed jawbone, and the gums are stitched back together. After this, the dentist installs temporary crowns or bridges and the patient returns home until their implants complete osseointegration.
What is osseointegration?
Osseointegration is a process of an implant fusing with the surrounding bone. This process creates a bond similar to that between a natural root and the jaw. After osseointegration is completed, the implant can support much heavier pressure, so implant installation is the only type of complete tooth replacement that does not limit the patient’s ability to eat. Osseointegration helps to stop the jawbone from shrinking. Jawbone shrinkage is a common issue among people who have lost their permanent teeth. It is caused by a lack of mechanical stimulation to the bone. After osseointegration is completed, the implant can transfer physical stimuli just like a natural root, stopping the jawbone from losing density and shape. Osseointegration can take about six months to complete. Once osseointegration is completed, the patient should return to our clinic to complete their implant installation treatment.
Permanent crowns or bridges installation
After the patient returns to the clinic, the dentist will examine their implants and make the necessary preparations for manufacturing the patient’s crowns or bridges. Once they are made, the dentist will remove the patient’s temporary low-pressure prostheses and install the permanent ones. The treatment is completed after permanent prosthesis installation, though the patient is recommended to stay in Mexico for a day or two after getting permanent prostheses. The dentist will be able to make adjustments if the patient discovers that they have any issues with their crowns or bridges.
What dental prostheses are installed on implants?
If a patient chooses porcelain implant screws because they have allergic reactions to metals, he will likely want an all-ceramic solution for teeth restoration. Fortunately, all-ceramic crowns and bridges can be installed onto implants.
When are crowns installed?
Crowns are used when the patient gets an implant to restore a single tooth or multiple non-consecutive teeth. Each crown needs a separate implant for support. Crowns are cups placed onto the implant screws to replace the upper parts of the teeth. Just like the zirconia implant screws themselves, porcelain crowns can be made of zirconia to offer the best combination of durability and aesthetics.
When are bridges used?
A bridge is installed when a patient replaces several adjacent teeth. Some dental bridges can replace a full dental line. Bridges can be installed using fewer implants than the number of teeth they replace. For example, a patient can replace all the teeth in one jaw using just four implants. For better stability, the patient can choose bridges that use six or eight implant screws per teeth row.
What are the advantages of ceramic implants?
Full-porcelain implant screws have several advantages over traditional metal implant screws, like those made of titanium. As mentioned above, porcelain is hypoallergenic. Allergies to titanium metal alloys occur in about one percent of patients and can cause gum inflammation and other health issues. Porcelain does not change the taste of foods.
Some patients report that metal screws make the food they eat taste different. Porcelain is an inert material that is more resistant to acids and other substances that can change their taste after contact with metals. Porcelain does not conduct electricity, which is important to some patients. All-ceramic implants osseointegrate readily, and treatments that use them have a very high success rate.
